ESG-focused software analytics platform provider Datamaran has officially announced the launch of Applicability Assessment, a specialized new tool engineered to help complex organizations determine precisely which environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulatory requirements apply to their operations across multiple corporate entities and global jurisdictions.

The introduction of this advanced feature marks a significant expansion of Datamaran’s broader Regulatory Monitoring Platform, which initially debuted in March 2026. That platform was originally created to help modern corporations monitor, navigate, and manage a rapidly shifting landscape of sustainability regulations as legislative requirements continue to evolve at an unprecedented pace worldwide.

Datamaran Launches Tool to Help Companies Identify Regulatory Obligations

According to Datamaran, the rollout of the new Applicability Assessment tool comes as multinational corporations and enterprises operating across multiple international borders increasingly struggle with the sheer administrative burden of compliance. Historically, organizations have had to rely heavily on manual, time-consuming assessments of hundreds of overlapping local and international regulations just to determine their baseline compliance obligations. Making matters more difficult, legal, compliance, and sustainability teams have been forced to repeat this arduous manual vetting process continually as regulations shift, amend, or expand into new areas.

The newly launched feature aims to eliminate this administrative friction by enabling businesses to evaluate multiple corporate entities simultaneously against both existing and proposed mandatory regulations. For each evaluated regulation, the system automatically classifies the potential obligation as Likely, Unlikely, or Uncertain to apply to a given entity. Crucially, these automated classifications are accompanied by clear, transparent explanations detailing the specific criteria and legal parameters used by the platform to reach each determination.

To streamline this complex evaluation process, Datamaran has integrated several advanced automation and organizational capabilities into the software. The platform automatically populates comprehensive entity profiles containing vital organizational data, including the location of corporate headquarters, specific countries of active operation, primary industry sectors, annual revenue figures, and total employee headcounts. Furthermore, the tool provides flexible grouping capabilities, allowing compliance officers and sustainability managers to organize corporate entities logically by geographical region, distinct business units, or even specific tiers within a corporate supply chain.

Alongside these individual entity profiles, the new Applicability Assessment feature incorporates intuitive dashboards designed to give leadership teams a high-level overview of enterprise-wide regulatory exposure. These centralized dashboards allow organizations to continuously monitor their compliance footprint, quickly identify potential information gaps, and track regulatory changes over time. To ensure maximum accuracy and reliability, Datamaran has also confirmed that an expert review feature is currently planned for the platform, which will be designed to support internal teams in validating complex assessment results before final reporting and compliance decisions are made.

The introduction of the tool directly addresses a persistent operational pain point that has long frustrated corporate departments tasked with managing sustainability mandates. Marjella Lecourt-Alma, CEO and co-founder of Datamaran, highlighted the immediate industry need for this type of automated solution, noting that legal, compliance, and sustainability professionals constantly grapple with basic yet difficult-to-answer compliance questions.

"We just need to know what applies to us is something we hear often from legal, compliance, and sustainability teams," Lecourt-Alma said, emphasizing that the new software addresses this core industry challenge directly. She added that the Applicability Assessment tool is specifically designed to provide that critical information quickly and reliably at the individual entity level and at scale across entire global organizations.
